Cool Shades Jake

Our grandson is a lifeguard and loves to play water polo so I thought of some images from Make It Crafty would work perfect for his birthday card. I used Cool Shades Jake and The Beach, both digi stamps, and merged them to make a scene for the front of the card. I also added the beginning of the sentiment to the front, and finished it on the inside. I used my Copic markers to color the image, except for his shorts - I paper-pieced those. I added a few sequins, a surfboard embellishment and glossy accents to his sunglasses to finish it up. Not too many things going on, but I am still learning with my markers and I am always worried about messing it up, but I guess that's just part of the journey! I tried to follow Zoe's ebook called Fun Techniques for Colouring Skies. This includes different kinds of skies, clouds, land and ocean. Take a  look and let me know what you think!

Sparkle

My goodness, Alyce's classes at Kit and Clowder are really amazing! I look at this card and can't believe I colored it. The videos are so helpful it is almost like color by number. And, along the way you learn little tips and tricks to help with and use in ALL of your coloring. This card was made using the monthly April 2017 Markers class. The image used is "Sparkle" from Mo's Digital Pencil. After all the coloring is done (using Copic markers), it almost doesn't need any embellishments, you could frame it and hang it on your wall. Since I wanted to make a card for my grandniece, I cut it out using my Silhouette Cameo, matted it a couple more times (the very back is white paper that I colored using my RV19 and RV13 to match the image), added some cute heart chipboards from Make It Crafty, sequins, and a ribbon flower I made with a heart button glued on top. Here is the card and a list of the markers used.

Ariela Mermaid

I am SO EXCITED!!! I tackled the May 2017 Markers class from Kit and Clowder and I cannot believe how it turned out! Yes, there are little things here and there that aren't like the instructor's, Alyce Keegan, but still, for just a beginner, I think I did pretty well! Alyce takes you step-by-step through each piece of the image, so it is not SO overwhelming. The videos are yours forever, so you can watch, re-watch as many times as you want, and you can use the techniques on other images. The image is Ariela Mermaid from Conie Fong on Etsy, and it is currently on sale, so grab her quick! I decided to use the image for my sister's birthday card, so I made a step card, added some ocean-type embellishments, tulle, paper straws and a little sun clip at the top. The copic marker colors I used were all from Alyce's class, except for a little green I used in the flowers on her headband (I decided to make them leaves rather than different colored flowers). The bubbles are outlined with a Uniball Signo white pen, as instructed by Alyce. Take a look at the outcome:

Thankful Heart

I've just finished two cards for a couple of nieces using the cute Thankful Heart Coloring Page from Tiddly Inks Stamps. Her stamps are so cute and versatile, and this particular one is FREE! You should pick it up and give it a go - make it as big or small as you want and color away. I used my Copic markers to color the image, my Silhouette Cameo to cut the paper and tags and even wrote the Happy Birthday message on one tag with my Cameo. I added a butterfly brad, some pretty flowers, another embellishment in the corner and done! My colors are listed below:

Swish, the Angelfish

Hello again! This month's Progressive Freebie Challenge at The Outlawz used two cute images drawn by Jean Chaney called Swish, the Angelfish and Swish, Tangled. We could use either one, or both for our creation, and I decided to use both. I sized the angelfish (used three times) to be smaller so Tangled was my focal point. Then, I just played with colors using my Copic markers. I colored the background using the technique from Kit and Clowder's May 2017 monthly marker class. Then, I searched through my ribbon stash for something to go with the underwater scene and decided on one that had circles on it to go with the bubbles. I added lots and lots of bling for bubbles and a couple of shell buttons (cutting off the shank on the back). I really liked all the colors and have decided that my favorite color is the rainbow! Here is my card and the colors I used:
Seaweed YG03, G94, G99

Astro Tobie

Hi again! I've been hard at work on my grandnephew's birthday card - this one took quite some time, but I am really happy with the outcome! The June monthly pencil class from Kit and Clowder used an image of a girl astronaut, with an optional boy astronaut you could use. As a monthly class subscriber you can purchase these images at a great discount, so I got both, but I had plans for the boy since this birthday was coming up. The images are from Some Odd Girl, with Astro Tobie for the boy and Space Cadet Tia for the girl. Well, I didn't have time to learn the pencil coloring and I feel more comfortable with my Copic markers, so I decided to try the image using my markers. I tried to use colors that looked close to the image in the pencils class. Then, I had to do the background - another issue! Well, going back in time to the May 2016 Markers Monthly Class, I remembered the background was something I thought I could use for this image. So I go to work! I had to draw free-hand the earth and moon, then used a white pen for the stars, even drawing in the Big Dipper and my grandnephew's name - LOL! I used Wink of Stella on the lighter areas of the background, Glossy Accents on the helmet, and I glued a lot of small bling on many, many stars. I used my Silhouette Cameo to make the diecuts. I even colored in the window on the spaceship with a silver pen. I hope you enjoy my card!

Out Of The Tub and Paper Piecing

Hello All! A card I just finished for my grandnephew's first birthday kind of made itself. I used Mo's Digital Pencil Out Of The Tub image - it is So Cute! I had printed the image kind of large, (4 inches high) and was trying to decide how to color the bath wrap. Then the invitation for the party came and the theme is Mickey Mouse - it was decided for me! I used an image I found online of Mickey Mouse fabric and paper-pieced the bath wrap - So Easy! I used Copic markers for the skin and duck, some Mickey Mouse paper I had, sequins, twine, pipe cleaners and ribbon and DONE! Have a look!

Camellias

Hi again! I've been working really hard on a monthly copic marker class from Kit and Clowder. The February class had a beautiful digital stamp from Power Poppy called Camellias. I wanted to use this for my Mom's birthday card, and the alternate colors using the violet markers was in her favorite color! So, as I watched each video, I worked on each part, the flowers, leaves and background. Wow! It took a long time, but I was really happy with the outcome. Hope you enjoy the picture and check out Kit and Clowder - the classes are awesome! And, check out Power Poppy - she has both clear and digital stamps and they are all beautiful!

My Fair Lady

This month's Progressive Freebie Challenge at The Outlawz used an image by Andrew Norris of SheepSki Designs, called "My Fair Lady." It is such an elegant image, and I tried to do it justice by not using too many embellishments and letting the image speak for itself. I used Copic pens to color her and my Silhouette Cameo to diecut the oval. The quote I used is credited to Audrey Hepburn.

Kissed By An Angel, Round 2

Well, I had said I was going to use this stamp for my Anniversary cards this year, and I meant it! The thing is, I want to personalize each with different colors. So, Conie Fong's Kissed By An Angel digi stamp is going to get a workout! All of her stamps are so adorable, you should check her out on Esty. I also wanted this card to be something other than a plain card, so I thought I would try it as a step card. I couldn't find a pattern for my Silhouette Cameo that fit my image size exactly, so I modified one pattern to make it work - that took a little doing! Then I decided to add a "Happy Anniversary" banner to the card, which added to my card size. So now it is a little larger than a standard 5x7 envelope, but I mailed it in a padded envelope, so it worked - lol! I colored the image with Copic markers. I hope you enjoy my card.

Koi Fishes

I saw a great card made by Deborah Deruyck on the Make It Crafty Blog, using 2 Koi Fish that are available at Make It Crafty for only $1.00. Then, I saw a fun technique on Jennifer McGuire's blog (from 2015, though) that I just had to try. So, I thought I would combine the two ideas! I used Evergreen Bough, Cracked Pistachio and Twisted Citron Distress Inks to ink up my cardstock. Then I brushed on Perfect Pearls and wiped with a soft cloth. I ran it through an embossing folder and matted it with some coordinating cardstock. I colored the koi with Copic markers, used my Cameo to cut out the koi and sentiment, added some sequins and I'm done!

Pansy Sprite

I really tried to stretch my coloring on this super cute image, Pansy Sprite, from Mitzi Sato-Wiuff on her Aurora Wings Blog. She offered the Pansy Sprite free while her challenge was on-going. Unfortunately, I could not color it during the challenge as I was off traveling. But the more I looked at it, and pictures of pansies online, I thought I could use it for my Mother's Day card. So, I used a picture of a pansy I found and tried to color the image as close as I could. I hope you like my card!

Butterfly Princess

I keep pushing myself to try new things and the messier they are, the more fun! I needed a card for my SIL's birthday, so I chose one of Heather Valentin's Lacy Sunshine images called Butterfly Princess. She is so pretty, and I so wanted her to be perfect. Then, because she is sitting, I didn't want just a plain floor or something under her, so I made a background using one of the techniques from Alyce Keegan's website, Kit and Clowder. If you are looking to learn to color images with markers or pencils, this is the place to go - she even has a couple of FREE classes to get you started! So, here is my card using the beautiful Butterfly Princess and the Copic marker colors I used to color her.

Kissed By An Angel

I found the cutest image for an Anniversary card, Kissed By An Angel by Conie Fong. It is so cute! My nephew's anniversary is this month, so I thought I would use this image. It turned out so cute that I think I'll use it for all my Anniversary cards this year (4!). I coloring the image with Copic markers and used Distress Ink to give a little shading for the sky. I know I used A LOT of colors for my tree branch, but I have to tell you, using a little of each gives you an amazing wood grain. Try them!

Hummingbird n Morning Glory Flowers

Well this month's Progressive Freebie Challenge at Outlawz Challenges offered a pretty digi with a hummingbird. The digi is an image by Createful Heart, if you want to pick it up for yourself. So I thought I would try blending some colors a little bit. Then I thought I would try cutting it out with my Cameo. Whew! I set a HUGE challenge out for myself on this! But I actually finished it ahead of the end of the month, so WooHoo! Here is the card I finished and the Copic colors I used.

Friend Flower Doodle

This month's Progressive Freebie Challenge at Outlawz uses the Friend Flower Doodle from Bugaboo Stamps. I printed the image on watercolor paper, made it a tag and did a wash using the Twinkling H2O Golden Opal. Then I painted the image using some of the other Twinkling H2O colors, did a final wash with a sparkle glitter spray (only I lightly painted it on). I haven't really learned to use the Twinkling H2Os in different ways, but they are so pretty and I love to paint small images with them. I put my tag on a card and added a few sequins. I hope you enjoy it!

Hockey Player

Well, our family has a little hockey player who is turning 6 in a few days, so I found the perfect image for his birthday card: Hockey Player by KennyK Stamps. My grandnephew's favorite color is red, so I made the shirt red and the contrasting color on the card is red (the mat background and the image's background layer). I've been wanting to try the starburst background and thought this image was perfect for it. I cut paper to 5 inches by 1.5 inches, then cut diagonally. I then glued them on a 5 by 5 inch square. Then on the back I measured for my card front and cut it on my paper trimmer. The starburst wasn't as hard as I thought it might be!
I colored him with Copic markers:
Skin E000, E00, E21, E11, E04
Hair and Eyes E31, E33, E35, E57
Red R32, R35, R37, R39
Black W1, W3, W5, W7
Stick Y11, Y15, Y17
I also used Wink of Stella Silver for the ice skates and trim on his hat. I hope you enjoy my card!
Aloha!

Butterfly Kisses

This month the Outlawz Challenges Progressive Freebie was a beautiful image by All Dressed Up called Butterfly Kisses Girl. I decided to try both paper piecing and a shaker card on this one. I paper pieced her dress and purse and colored the rest with Copic markers as follows: Skin E000, E00, E21, E11, E04, RV21; Hair E21, E23, E25, E27, E29; Hat & Scarf BV00, BV02, BV13, BV08; Butterfly BV00, BV02, BV13, R81, R83, R85, R89. I added the Happy Birthday sentiment behind the shaker and trailed the sequins on the card. I've decided to use the card for our granddaughter's birthday.

Old Fart

Well, I had fun with this image from Bugaboo Stamps, Gus Birthday - Old Fart. He's a hoot! I made the card for a dear friend who is turning 98 in a few days. I colored Gus with Copic markers: Skin E000, E00, E21, E11, E04, RV21; Hat G00, G02, G17, Y11, Y15, Y17; Hair B60, BV31, C3, C5; Pipe E21, E23, E25, E27, YR18; Robe B41, B45, B39; Slippers R81, R83, R85, E18, E15, E21, C3. I made the diecut on my Silhouette Cameo and then used the black glitter Silhouette Sketch Pen to draw the sentiment (it accompanies the digi) and then colored it in with a black EK Success pen. I also added glossy accents to his glasses. And then I added some Stickles to the fluff on top of his birthday hat. I cut him out on my Cameo and placed him on the card with some pop dots. I am entering this card in the Outlawz Challenges, the Wednesday Sketch Challenge. I hope you enjoy my card!

Mom and Dad's Anniversary

I found the cutest image for my mom and dad's anniversary card. It is from Make It Crafty and is called "Flirty Seniors". I thought I would try paper-piecing again, after coloring it with my Copics, so I paper-pieced their slippers and the blanket she is sewing. My mom is such an incredible seamstress and has made blankets for everyone in our family! The Copic colors I used are: E000, E00, E21, E11, E04, RV21 for skin; V1, V6, V9 for the purple clothing; R02, R24, R27, R29 for his tie; B60, BV31, C3, C5 for their hair; B41, B45, B39 for his jeans; B91, B93, B95, B97 for his jacket with a light E41 wash over it; W00, W1, W3 for the newspaper; V1, W00, W1, W3 for her apron; E41, E43, E44, E47, E49 for the chairs; W00, W1, W3 for his shirt; and C0, C1, C3 for the floor. The beautiful ribbon is from Paper Temptress. The lace is some I picked up from Joann's. Hope you enjoy my card!

Bowl Of!

It is harder to keep up a blog than I thought, but we will see how I do. I tried my first shaker card using a Mo's Digital Pencil image titled "Bowl Of". There are several choices of items to use in the bowl including hearts, popcorn, cookie dough, cherries and a sundae, so it is a very versatile stamp! I colored her using copics: E000, E00, E21, E11, E04, RV21 for skin; R32, R35, R37, R39 for the reds, B41, B45, B39 for the blues; YG23, YG45, YG67 for the greens; and E21, E23, E25, E27, E29 for the hair. I added little heart blings that I colored red with my R39 and ribbon. Hope you like it!

Chill

So, I've been entering the Outlawz Challenges, the Freebie/Progressive monthly challenge. Each month they send a free image for you to color and make a project. You can enter it in the challenge, upload it to your gallery there, and enter it in the Inlinkz linkup for a chance to win digis! It has been an opportunity for me to be inspired by all the others on the site, improve my coloring skills, make cards I can use, and maybe even win a digi or two. My December entry was this cute snowman from Sandi's Samples. I thought I would try paper-piecing on the poinsettia on the snowman, just to be different. I've never tried that technique before, so I thought it would be fun. Then, when I went to cut it out, well, it was a very small poinsettia, as the snowman was only 3.5 inches tall! Anyway, I colored him up using Copic markers G40, YG13, YG17, for his hat, scarf, mittens and poinsettia shading; YR04, YR07, R02 for his carrot nose; W00, W01, W03 for his eyes and buttons; BV0000, BV20 for shading his snow-sides; and E21, E23, E25, E 27, E29, R24, B32, YG13, W1 for the wood grain in the sign. Enjoy!
